HOW HIGH IS UP?

There are people who are not statistics. They don't fit in; they stand out.

Meet Richard Gunther, who started life with an emotionally abandoning mother and father. He had a stepfather who walked out the door one day and never came back. He was lonely and believed he was unworthy.

But he had a great curiosity and a fascination for the mysteries of the universe.

Adding to that a spirit of adventure and the willingness to take reasonable risks, he soon found a path to success. He was an isolated boy who saw opportunity where others saw fear, and he grew into a busy, productive man with a loving wife, wonderful children, and a multimillion dollar business.

But all that did not add up to fulfillment. All it amounted to was many people telling him that he should be happy when he knew he wasn't.

So, at age thirty-four, having achieved the American Dream, life still felt incomplete. Richard then pulled away from the golden road and started a quest for his answer through external and personal adventures.

Treks to Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Everest. Marathons to run. Immersion stops in psychotherapy, spirituality, scientific and pseudoscientific, and hallucinogenic venues. Visits to places in the world and destinations in the mind that few have the time and the courage to embrace.

These adventures opened him to an understanding of himself that led to a focus on service ranging from rehabilitating slums in Israel, to creating a national recognition program for senior volunteers through AARP, to helping develop cosmological and extraterrestrial science exhibits, to a continuing involvement in numerous business ventures. A life filled with satisfaction and joy.

Take the journey. Make the climb. Join Richard Gunther in this singular tale of what life can become when you ask "How High Is Up?" and there are no limits to the possible.
